With her new single, Assi Sajna, Jasleen Royal, known as “Lady Queen of Love Anthem,” is returning to captivate the crowd. She’s officially made her pop music debut with this song.
We immediately got in touch with the star for an exclusive discussion, and we have to say that she was in full “yahoo” mode.
The Ranjha singer chuckles and says, “I feel good that my music is all about love and being in love.” We started this conversation by referring to her as the “Lady Queen of Love Anthem.” That feels unique (we chuckle).
Looking back at her journey, she recalled in this chitter-chatter how music was something that happened to her by chance and how, as a kid, she’d adored the legendary A R Rahman.
Moving ahead, apart from her filmy tracks, there has been a loyal fan following that she has certainly enjoyed. However, her melody with Dulquer Salmaan, Heeriye, has to date been all over social media, making Jasleen Royal a celebrated name in the music industry.
Heeriye being an independent song, she recalls, “It was a pretty expensive project because I had also produced. There was some belief that made me take the risk, and it was not like I was thinking about it from a financial point of view. I was thinking, ‘This is something I believe in, and I want to go big on it. People kept being curious about the money and giving it a label. But there was something in me that stopped me. I was really holding it tight, and I couldn’t part ways with it. By that logic, I would say that I believed in it, but I didn’t know it would become like a global no. 1 on YouTube and other streaming platforms. I just feel very lucky and grateful for the love I’ve got for it.”
While people are still not out of Heeriye, her just-released track Assi Sajna has once again been making some right noise on the internet. Though she says both songs are different from one another, she gleefully enthuses, “I am so glad that people are still not out of Heeriye, and I hope they never are out of it (we laugh out loud). I hope that Heeriye becomes a timeless song. That’s a dream for any artist. But coming to Assi Sajna, it’s a very different song in terms of its arrangement, structure, and feel; it’s a very pop and very summer song. We made this song last year in my studio around the same time in June. We felt such a sunny and beachy vibe when we made the song. It just made us feel very happy to make this song. I wanted that same feeling to be translated to the audience. And now, when I see it, people are making reels on this song with the same feel that I wanted to have: having fun with their loved one, enjoying themselves with friends, or eating their favourite food. It’s just about loving life and feeling happy. That is what Assi Sajna is all about.”
The song, just like many of us, also resonates with Jasleen enjoying life with a cup of coffee and enjoying nothingness. Assi Sajna, she says, has very well translated her feelings into the song. It celebrates life’s unpredictable journey and the love that accompanies us everywhere, and it’s set to become the romantic blockbuster of the year. Her journey to start again and rediscover herself on her own is shown in the music video.
“I am very excited, obviously, to be able to try out different genres,” enthuses the Sang Rahiyo singer. “As a person, I get bored of doing similar things. All I want to do is keep trying new things and improving. I wish to collaborate with many musicians on my song. The director and I had to collaborate on this song due to our different schedules. We continued tormenting one another, and a great deal had changed. It was quite intense.”

Well, as we head towards the end of this chat on what’s more on the plate, she gushes, “A lot of things are coming up; like I said, I keep experimenting, and I’m also trying to mount things bigger and bigger, and that’s the Punjabi in me. Joh karenge grand karenge. So you’ll be happy to see what’s next.”
