Hansika Motwani plays the principal character in the upcoming Telugu psychological thriller, 105 Minutes. The movie is the first Indian production ever to feature just one character in a single frame. The film, which was directed by Raju Dussa, defies every filmmaking convention and features a novel concept.
As The Pioneer connects with the actress for a quick chat, Hansika Motwani adds, “When I first learned that it’s a one shot picture, truly, my first query was as to how we would shoot it. The movie is currently drawing a lot of attention, so how am I going to accomplish this? This is something I have never attempted before! How is the entire crew going to handle it? So many queries were coming up. I had to make things appear extremely typical and cozy because there are scenes in the movie with wind, fire, and rain. Curiosity sparked by Can something like this be shot?”
It is a marvel since every frame is captured in a single shot featuring a single character. For the entire 145 minutes of the film, only actress Hansika will be visible to the audience. The idea that a film could pull off such a feat required a great deal of preparation and execution, and the audience was enthralled with the thought when they saw it on social media. The My Name is Shruthi actress went on to share, “It required a lot of patience and time. I needed the cinematography department to work in perfect sync with me. I wanted to add my own special touches, so I didn’t use any references from any other Hollywood production. Some of the inspirational passages immediately resonated with me because I had seen Birdman before.”
The Hollywood classics Birdman and 1917, which featured little speech and writing, are cited as the film’s primary inspirations. 105 Minutes is a live-action film without any computer-generated imagery or green-mat scenes. According to media sources, the entire film crew is pleased with the finished product, which they say has exceeded their expectations and is anticipated to become a standard for experimental Telugu cinema. Some of the tidbits are confirmed by the main character herself: “The film has three internal stitches. I had a really hard time shooting. The makeup was challenging since professionals were attempting to apply foot makeup while the camera was focused on my face. I had to feel something. I had to appear dead at the climax, which was challenging for me as well because it was pouring rain and I remembered that it was really chilly while we were filming in Hyderabad. For some reason, I was frozen the moment the filmmaker cut.”
The actress further proceeds, “I was inhaling deeply. There were a few situations like that; the fire sequence, for instance, is another example where I felt really heated all around. These are a few of the unusual situations that I found to be very physically demanding. Being an actress, I have an extreme need to keep doing new things. I can do anything, even if it means beginning over, and I never say no to anything new or difficult. I refuse to limit my enjoyment of any genre.” The background score in a movie like this is crucial, and the actress felt that the composer has truly excelled in this regard. In actuality, his music has made the movie even more bearable. Additionally, “I perform better under pressure, so that says it all. I am working even harder.”
