Chiyaan Vikram, renowned for his dynamic performances and versatile roles, is set to enthrall audiences with his upcoming film, Thangalaan. Directed by the acclaimed Pa Ranjith and produced by KE Gnanavel Raja under Studio Green Films in association with Neelam Productions, this film is poised for a grand release on August 15th, aligning with Independence Day. Featuring Parvathy Thiruvothu and Malavika Mohanan, Thangalaan promises to offer a fresh and unique cinematic experience. Vikram describes Thangalaan as a departure from traditional cinema. “Thangalaan is a unique film, much like my previous works such as Sivaputrudu, Aparichitudu, Nanna and I,” he explains. The film stands out for its raw and emotional content. Vikram highlights how director Pa Ranjith has crafted a narrative that eschews conventional cinematic formulas. “This film does not follow the typical structure—no songs, fight scenes, or standard story blocks like the interval or climax. Thangalaan has a life of its own,” Vikram says. He notes that the filming process included shooting some scenes in a single take and using live sound, a novel approach for him. Vikram’s dedication to his role in Thangalaan is evident. “I worked long hours and delivered the same dialogues, immersing myself in the portrayal of the era’s hardships,” he reveals. He credits Pa Ranjith for presenting a story that diverges from the conventional, blending commercial appeal with artistic depth. “Pa Ranjith has showcased his unique ideology and specialty as a director. I believe Thangalaan will be one of his greatest works,” Vikram adds. Expressing gratitude toward producer Gnanavel Raja, Vikram emphasises the significance of their collaboration. “I am grateful to Gnanavel for providing me with such an excellent film,” he says. “This is our first project together and I look forward to more collaborations.” Vikram reflects on the growing prominence of South Indian films on a national scale, citing the success of KGF, Baahubali and RRR as evidence of their wide appeal. He also acknowledges Rajamouli’s achievements with RRR, praising his contribution to global cinema. In discussing his dual roles in Thangalaan, Vikram emphasises the importance of authenticity. “I took great care to ensure that my characters were natural and believable. It wouldn’t have been right to have a hero’s physique in a role dealing with food shortages,” he explains. He also addresses misconceptions about the popularity of Telugu films in Tamil Nadu, pointing out that South Indian films often outperform Tamil films at the box office. “Movies like Baahubali, RRR, KGF and Kantara were wellreceived by Tamil audiences,” he notes. Thangalaan is described by Vikram as a meticulously crafted adventure film. “Director Ranjith has infused it with his distinctive artistic touch,” he says. “It’s a captivating movie that I’m excited for everyone to see.” Vikram had long admired Ranjith as a director and was thrilled when he was approached for Thangalaan. He praises the film for its adventure, message, magic and emotional depth, calling it one of his best roles. Vikram also appreciates the creative freedom provided by Gnanavel Raja and is confident in the film’s global appeal. Vikram concludes by highlighting the universal themes of Thangalaan. “The film resonates with audiences worldwide, not just those from specific linguistic backgrounds,” he explains. “It features a story about gold hunting and a struggle for freedom, making it difficult to categorise. Through this film, Pa Ranjith explores life’s inconsistencies and delivers a raw, rustic portrayal.” He reflects on the demanding nature of the role, from extensive makeup sessions to filming in diverse conditions, and expresses his passion for the project. With his characteristic enthusiasm and commitment, Chiyaan Vikram is ready to introduce audiences to the world of Thangalaan, promising a cinematic experience that is both innovative and deeply engaging
