The International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Hyderabad has introduced a unique opportunity for liberal arts students to pursue dual degree BTech programme through direct admissions for the academic year 2023. This initiative aims to encourage students with a humanities and social sciences background to explore the field of Computer Science.

The Institute is offering two five-year dual degree programmes which are BTech in Computer Science and Master of Science by research in Computational Natural Sciences, and BTech in Computer Science and Master of Science by research in Computing and Human Sciences.

Traditionally, admissions into these programmes required clearing the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). However, in an effort to attract talented individuals from diverse educational backgrounds, IIIT Hyderabad has established a special admission process for students who have studied humanities and social sciences in Class 12, while also displaying proficiency in Mathematics.

To be eligible for the Computational Natural Sciences programme, candidates must have obtained a minimum of 90 per cent in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry in their Class 12 exams. For the Computing and Human Sciences programme, a minimum eligibility criterion of 85 per cent in Mathematics and any one of the following subjects – History, Political Science, Geography, Economics, English Elective, or Sociology – is mandatory.

The admission process allows students who have achieved high scores in Class 12 exams conducted by any Central or State Board to bypass the JEE and secure direct admission into the dual degree programmes.

By offering this opportunity, IIIT Hyderabad aims to bridge the gap between the humanities and social sciences disciplines and the field of Computer Science, enabling students to pursue their passion for both areas of study simultaneously. This move reflects the institute’s commitment to nurturing interdisciplinary education and encouraging students to explore diverse academic paths.
