In a groundbreaking partnership, the Indian Institute of Management-Visakhapatnam (IIMV) and the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) have joined forces to offer comprehensive capacity-building programmes in the field of public procurement.
This unique initiative has already successfully trained 103 professionals from diverse sectors, including public sector undertakings, banks, insurance companies, and other government organisations. The training sessions, conducted in three cohorts, aim to foster transparency, equity, accountability, and efficiency in the realm of public procurement.
“The CVC has urged us to diversify the course content based on the outstanding feedback received,” stated Prof. M Chandrasekhar, Director of IIMV. “We will be introducing programmes in the procurement of works, and a comprehensive training calendar for the next six months will be prepared.”
Highlighting the significance of these programmes, Prof. Chandrasekhar emphasised the critical role officers play in public procurement. “In the realm of public procurement, officers hold a position of immense responsibility,” he maintained. “As custodians of public trust, their actions will have far-reaching implications, shaping the efficiency, fairness, and accountability of government spending.”
He further elaborated on the training’s core principles. “It is essential that these officers embrace vigilance as their guiding principle and adhere to a steadfast commitment to logical reasoning, rational thought, evidence-based analysis, and a normative approach,” he explained. “The training programmes at IIMV cover all these concepts to build the capacities of officers and senior executives to navigate the procurement landscape with precision.”
The commitment of IIMV to organise these capacity-building programmes for the greater public good is reinforced by the positive impact witnessed across different Central public sector enterprises whose senior officials participated in the training programmes. The success of the initiative affirms IIMV’s dedication to advancing the skills and knowledge of professionals involved in public procurement for the benefit of society at large.
