Illegal liquor suppliers must be booked: Srinivas Goud

Telangana Minister for Prohibition and Excise V Srinivas Goud on Thursday said that the illegal liquor suppliers must be booked under Preventive Detention (PD) Act.

Goud held a review meeting at the Secretariat and asked officials to carry out comprehensive checks to prevent illegal liquor coming into the state through airport, railway, buses and other means of transport in Hyderabad. Officials of the State Excise Department have directed to issue notices and organize awareness programs to the railway, bus station and inter-state bus transport operators to know about the illegal transport of liquor.

It is to be noted that Section 1 of the Telangana Prohibition and Excise Act 1968 makes it a punishable offense to bring any liquor from other states into Telangana without permission. The Minister ordered the officials to conduct awareness programmes for that under Section 34 (1) that there is a possibility of a fine of Rs one lakh and imprisonment for five years.

Authorities have been asked to take measures to stop the supply of gudumba and jaggery with the cooperation and coordination of police, revenue and RTA officials on the illegal supply of liquor. Goud further said, “Educate function halls owners, event organizers, convention center managers, banquet hall managers and hotel managers in the state about illegal liquor supply.”
