The Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, has requested Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to implement the assurance given regarding the payment of fee reimbursement dues and to ensure that, henceforth, these dues are paid annually within the stipulated time.
Sanjay addressed a letter to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy regarding this on Thursday. In his letter, Sanjay said, “The negligent approach adopted by the TG Government in implementing the fee reimbursement scheme has endangered the future of lakhs of poor students. Thousands of colleges —including Intermediate, Degree, Engineering, and Nursing institutions — have plunged into crisis. Just like the BRS government, the Congress government too is refusing to clear fee reimbursement dues on time, resulting in numerous problems. Due to the non-payment of fee reimbursement dues over the past four years, an outstanding amount of nearly Rs 8,000 crore has accumulated. Private college managements are now desperate. They are unable to pay salaries to staff or cover maintenance costs. Many institutions are in debt. With no incoming fee reimbursements and no means
to repay borrowed loans, many colleges have already shut down.”
“Private college managements are now bluntly saying that they will not issue certificates to students who have not paid their fees. As a result, students are suffering severely. They are unable to apply for jobs on the one hand, and unable to pursue higher education on the other,” he added.
“This was brought to the attention of the BRS government as well as to your notice. It was the Congress which introduced the fee reimbursement scheme to enable poor students to pursue higher education. Due to various reasons, thousands of crores have accumulated as arrears. I would like to remind you about the assurance you gave at the meeting with the engineering college managements held last year at the JNTU,” Sanjay said in his letter.
