Implement free sand policy transparently: Eluru Collector

District Collector K Vetri Selvi directed the officials to take steps to implement the free sand policy transparently and in a flawless manner in the district.
The Collector held a meeting with the officials concerned here on Monday and reviewed the supply of sand at free of cost as per the new policy.
Speaking on the occasion, Collector Vetri Selvi said that the free sand policy should be implemented everywhere in the district with full transparency.
He told the officials to install CC cameras and ensure staff must be available 24 hours a day at the sand stock points.  The staff should work in three shifts and records should be kept in the stock point every morning starting with stocking, how much sand was supplied and stocking details, the Collector told them.
 The sand prices must be displayed at the stock points and strict action will be taken against those who charge more than the prescribed prices, she warned. The officials of the Special Enforcement Bureau should check the vehicles that come out of the stock point and if there are any discrepancies in the records or the quantity of sand, they should investigate and cases should be registered, the Collector ordered the officials.
She directed the Tahsildars of the Department of Mines concerned to check the stock points every day and sign the records. Collector Vetri Selvi warned that action would be taken against the officials concerned, if there was illegal movement of sand anywhere in the district.
The officials should immediately respond and take action on the controversial news items published in the newspapers on sand smuggling, investigate the facts of the news and submit a report. The task force team should strengthen surveillance, she told the officials.
