District Collector A Sarat has put the district administration on high alert in view of incessant rains lashing the district for the last few days.
He gave instructions to Revenue officials and district officials on the precautions to be adopted in view of heavy rains lashing the district.
He asked the officials to take steps to ensure that the people do not face problems.
The Revenue, Panchayat Raj and Municipal officials should take steps to prevent inundation of low-lying areas and shift those who live in old and dilapidated structures to relief camps. Since all water bodies are in spate, people should be discouraged to go near them, he said, asking the engineering officials to install boards prohibiting the people to go near the water bodies.
In villages and other low-lying areas, the officials should order making announcements by beating drums to prevent people from going near streams and dams.
He asked the officials to inspect the irrigation tanks and assess the situation by undertaking walk tank bunds.
Besides taking steps to prevent contamination of drinking water, Tahsildars and MPDOs should monitor the situation constantly.
All precautions should be put in place to avoid loss of life. Municipal commissioners have been asked to take steps to see that drains do not overflow.
The Medical officers, ASHA workers and ANMS should be available to people always. Medicines should be kept ready at PHCs.
Moreover, 108 vehicles should be kept in handy, he said.
Village panchayat secretaries should take suitable measures from time to time, he said asking the officials to the panchayat secretaries in a state of high alert.
Electricity Department officials have been asked to take steps to repair the snapped overhead power lines and damaged electric poles.
He asked the district officials to ensure that staff of their department should be available in headquarters and asked them not to grant leaves.
Additional Collectors Chandrasekhar, Madhuri, DRDO Nagesh, district officials, revenue divisional officers, Tahsildars and others were present.
