District Collector G Ravi Nayak on Thursday directed the officials to focus on the safety of the people living in low-lying areas. The officials should focus on sanitation in villages, tribal hamlets and municipalities and ensure that the drains are cleaned regularly. He directed the officials to take all precautionary measures to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
Addressing the district officials through teleconference to review the situation in view of incessant rains in the district on Thursday, he asked the officials to take measures to prevent the loss of lives and the death of cattle.
In case of floodwater inundating roads, the officials should divert traffic with the help of the police and erect barricades on roads.
The irrigation officials should constantly monitor water levels in tanks and keep ready with sandbags as precautionary measures to plug breaches in bunds, if any. He asked the officials to deploy expert swimmers.
Fishermen should be prevented from venturing into rivers, tanks and reservoirs. District Fire Department personnel should keep ready to deal with any eventuality, he said, asking the officials to keep fire engines ready.
Mission Bhagiradha officials were asked to prevent drinking water pollution due to rains. The power supply should be available 100% and snapped-up overhead electric cables should be repaired immediately due to the fall of tree branches and trees on them, the Collector said.
In case uprooted trees block the roads, they should be removed immediately, he said.
Agriculture officials should implement precautions to rule out any damage to standing agricultural and horticultural crops. Agricultural officials should clear water stagnant in their fields from time to time.
He asked people to contact the control room set up on Collectorate premises at 08542-241165 in case of any emergency.
Since holidays are declared for schools, students should not go out.
Superintendent of Police K Narasimha said that the rainfall is likely to increase in the district during the next two days. Therefore, the SHOs have been put on maximum alert and wanted them to monitor the highways.
He asked the Panchayat Raj and Municipal officials to coordinate efforts to ensure the safety of people.
