Indian Navy commissions INS Tarmugli

In a grand ceremony held at the Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam, Vice Admiral Sandeep Naithani, AVSM, VSM, Chief of Materiel, Indian Navy, has officially commissioned INS Tarmugli, a Fast Attack Craft (FAC), under the Eastern Naval Command. The ship, belonging to the Trinkat Class FAC, has undergone extensive restoration after being gifted to the Maldivian Naval Defence Forces (MNDF) by the Government of India in 2006.
Returning in May of this year, INS Tarmugli underwent meticulous restoration work at the Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam, resulting in its present upgraded form. The warship is equipped with advanced features, including MTU engines, water jet propulsion, state-of-the-art communication equipment, a 30-mm gun, and an advanced radar system. Its primary functions will revolve around coastal surveillance and protection of Offshore Development Areas (ODAs) in the KG Basin area and along the East Coast of India.
Commander Satpal Singh Sangwan leads INS Tarmugli, operating under the Naval Officer-in-Charge (Andhra Pradesh). The vessel, named after a scenic island in the Andaman group, weighs 320 tonnes and measures 48 meters in length, boasting an impressive top speed of over 30 knots.
The commissioning of INS Tarmugli marks a significant enhancement in the Indian Navy’s capabilities for maritime security and coastal defense. The ship’s modern features and advanced technology will contribute to safeguarding vital coastal regions, reinforcing India’s commitment to maritime safety and security in the region.
