A couple allegedly committed suicide after apparently failing to conceive a child at Ahmednagar under Narsapur mandal in the district. The deceased were identified as Laxman (30) and Rani (27).
According to the police, they had been married for seven years. They had consulted several doctors, but to avail. The social burden of a couple’s failure to bear a child allegedly drove them to commit suicide. Laxman used to confide to his aunt that infertility had a devastating effect on him.
The couple, according to police, consumed pesticide on June 10. The neighbours, alerted by the alarm raised by them, ferried them to Government Hospital in Narsapur. As their condition deteriorated, they were shifted to Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad. The couple died while undergoing treatment in Gandhi Hospital on Monday.
Narsapur sub-inspector of police Sivakumar registered a case and an investigation is on.
