YSRCP national general secretary and Rajya Sabha member V Vijayasai Reddy has opined that if the manufacturing sector is revived, the employment opportunities of Indians will improve and the youth will not go abroad for jobs.
The MP on Monday took to the social media platform and said that in the last 10 years, the number of young people going abroad for employment and education opportunities have been increasing significantly. Due to migration from India, which has a population of more than 140 crore, the remittances sent by Indians from the countries where they work and live are also increasing exponentially. Due to the lack of sufficient employment opportunities in the home country, educated and skilled young men and women are migrating to West Asia, Europe, North America, Australia, New Zealand, and other countries. He pointed out that most of the people in the world who leave their home country and work in other countries are Indians.
Vijayasai Reddy said that according to the estimates of United Nations organizations, 1.80 crore Indians are living in various countries across the world. It is estimated that in 2022, these expatriate Indians will have repatriated around 100 billion dollars. Indians are also at the forefront of expatriate remittances. There is no doubt that Indians are taking advantage of the opportunities available abroad. Also, it is good to send the valuable foreign exchange to the home country. But due to the lack of adequate employment opportunities in India and the number of jobs at higher levels in Information Technology (IT) not as expected, migration of Indian youth to foreign countries is increasing.
He said that unemployment is very less in America, a superpower in terms of wealth, technology, and resources. Even in China, which has become a ‘Factory’ for the world, unemployment is low. The reason that employment opportunities in China are adequate for such a large population is that there is constant investment in the manufacturing sector. Manufacturing activities are going on there on a large scale.
The MP stated that many economists have been suggesting that there is no need to stop immigration from India but rather to create jobs for the educated and trained youth in the country. It is not easy to create a large number of jobs in this sector as the service sector is limited to a few cities in the country and employment opportunities are available only to those who are well-skilled. That is why economists like former Reserve Bank Governor Duvvuri Subbarao are of the view that governments should take appropriate measures to increase employment opportunities in the manufacturing sector. They feel that with rising inflation due to international developments, India is unlikely to face crises like small countries like Sri Lanka and Pakistan under any circumstances. However, they strongly believe that there is unmanageable unemployment in agriculture, and expansion of the manufacturing sector in India is the only way to bring the rural youth out of agriculture.
MP Vijayasai Reddy opined that after the full recovery from the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, the country is witnessing economic development, but employment opportunities are not increasing at the required level. That is why the experts suggest increasing the investment expenditure and trying to increase job opportunities for the youth. Highly educated people should not feel that they have no future in India. However, he said that the Andhra Pradesh government is making strong efforts in this regard and there is no doubt that this effort will bear fruit soon.
