Flood surge is increasing in the Godavari river following incessant rains. The Lakshmi Barrage at Medigadda received a massive inflow of 5.79 lakh cusecs. The engineers lifted 75 of the total 85 crest gates were lifted to release flood waters downstream. The Annaram Barrage, the upstream project, received an inflow of 56,22 cusecs and the engineers lifted 40 crest gates to release the flood waters downstream. The water level rose to 11.02 metres at Kaleshwaram Pushkar Ghat. The Sammakka Barrage at Tupakulagudem in Mulugu district received 7.55 lakh cusecs of flood water. Farmers express fear that backwaters from the Kaleshwaram Project could submerge crops if the flood level in Godavari rises further. Farmers suffered crop loss for the last three years as the backwaters from various projects entered the agriculture fields.Though the Chief Minister assured compensation at the rate of Rs 10,000 to each farmer who suffered crop loss, no assistance was provided to farmers so far.
