Why the BRS worry over defections when there is no advantage with the defectors. Already seven BRS MLAs joined the Congress and some more are on their way. The BRS leadership is making all efforts to prevent the defections. The BRS went to court also against the defectors. Against this backdrop, BRS senior leader and former minister T Harish Rao commented that there will be no advantage with the defections. He said that 12 Congress MLAs defected to the BRS after 2018 Telangana Assembly elections and in the 2023 Assembly elections, 10 of them were defeated. According to Harish Rao, with the defections the defectors and political parties also have no advantage. If the political parties give tickets in the Assembly elections, the defectors will be defeated and with this, the political party also will lose some seats. So, with the BRS MLAs’ defections the defected MLAs and the Congress party also have no advantage in the coming Assembly elections if the defectors will be given the Assembly tickets. Then the advantage will be to the BRS as it is the main Opposition party. On one side the BRS is saying that there will be no advantage with the defections and on the other side the BRS is making every effort to prevent the defections and criticising the defected MLAs. As per the BRS theory, with the defections of party MLAs, the Congress will have no advantage and it will become advantageous to the BRS. When the Congress has no advantage with the defections, the BRS need not worry over the defections of party MLAs. When there is no advantage with the defections, why the BRS encouraged the defections when it was in power? the political observers question. Perhaps after the defeat in the Assembly elections, the BRS might have come to know this fact, political observers feel. Meanwhile, BRS working president and former minister KT Rama Rao said that the Congress MLAs did not defect, but they merged with the BRS. So, if the BRS MLAs merge with the Congress, it is not wrong. The BRS MLAs also may do the same after reaching the required number.
