BRS MLC Kavitha launched a fierce counterattack against the Congress Government for issuing notices to former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao in connection with the Kaleshwaram Project.

Addressing a massive maha dharna at the Indira Park, organised by Telangana Jagruthi, Kavitha said the notices were a product of ‘political vendetta’ and an ‘insult’ to the people of Telangana.

“What wrong did KCR commit? Providing water to our lands? Making Telangana number one in development?” she asked, asserting that the notices issued to KCR amounted to issuing notices to the entire state.

Dismissing the Commission of Inquiry as politically driven, she said it was not a Kaleshwaram Commission but a “Congress Commission” and that it ‘lacks’ credibility.

Thousands of people and Jagruthi activists attended the protest, where Kavitha passionately defende the Kaleshwaram Project. “It’s not just three barrages, it is 21 pump houses, 15 reservoirs, 200 km of tunnels, and 1500 km of canals. The sheer scale of the project rivals world wonders,” she said, adding that it could irrigate 40 lakh acres, permanently provide 40 TMC water to Hyderabad, and supply water to industries.

Kavitha asked why Megha Krishna Reddy, whose company executed major portions of the pump house work, was not summoned by the Commission. “Ninety per cent of the pump house work was done by his firm. Why hasn’t the government called him for questioning? Is Revanth Reddy scared?” she said, demanding transparency and fairness.

Slamming the silence of BJP leaders, she asked why they were not demanding the national project tag for Kaleshwaram or challenging Andhra Pradesh’s Banakacharla Project.

“Even a ‘small’ crack in Kaleshwaram made the NDSA rush in. But when the SLBC tunnel collapsed, there was no reaction from either the NDSA or the Centre,” she pointed out.

Kavitha also targeted Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, asking why he had not written to the Centre opposing the Banakacharla Project or the Godavari-Penna linkage. “It’s clear now that Congress and the BJP are allied,” she said.

She reminded that earlier, Congress governments used to hand over most irrigation contracts to Megha. She said that officials were now prioritising commissions and contractors, instead of providing irrigation. “It’s time Telangana shows its spirit,” she said.

She concluded by reaffirming Telangana Jagruthi’s commitment to fight for the state’s rightful share of 1000 TMCs of Godavari water and national project tag for Kaleshwaram.

“KCR built this project with Rs 80,000 crore. Where is the Rs 1 lakh crore corruption Revanth talks about?” she asked.

Many of the Telangana Jagruthi, its district units and the United People’s Front (UPF) joined the protest, pledging their support.
