Drawing attention to Hyderabad being one of the most dynamic hubs for R&D, life sciences and medical technologies, Minister for IT, E&C, Industries & Commerce, and Legislative Affairs, D Sridhar Babu inaugurated Medtronic’s new Global IT (GIT) Centre at Medtronic Engineering & Innovation Centre (MEIC), BSR Tech Park, on Wednesday.
Addressing the gathering, Sridhar Babu said, “We have built a great ecosystem over the past three to four decades like no other region and countries which stand nowhere in the global arena.”  He stressed the beautiful environment the State has round the year, which is an added advantage. He also said, “We should take pride in our technological advancements and great manufacturing processes.”
Sridhar Babu thanked Medtronic for establishing the first large-scale IT centre outside the US, stating that it reflects the confidence in the government and Telangana’s potential. He welcomed more companies to establish their footprints in Telangana, assuring that the government is fully prepared to support and promote the sequential growth of the State and the investors who choose to partner with the State in this journey. “We are truly dedicated to providing an environment where business can thrive and flourish,” he added.
Sridhar Babu thanked US Consul General Jennifer Larson for being a strong influencer for the Telangana.
The new GIT centre will focus on technologies like cloud engineering, data platforms, digital health apps, hyper-automation and AI/ML. Key skills include cloud & DevOps, analytics, integration, full stack engineering, robotic automation, data mining, agile management, business analysis and IT security. These will boost productivity, manage risks and drive growth in healthcare technology.
In a media roundtable discussion, Medtronic’s SVP and CIO, Rashmi Kumar said, “Innovation is at the heart of every transformative technology at Medtronic. Hyderabad has the talent and strength for a global workforce in the development of technology and digital solutions. We are investing $60 million in the Global IT workforce over the next five years, providing over 300 employment opportunities, from hiring experienced candidates to internship programmes from colleges. GIT is focusing on IT, data platforms, Gen AI technologies, analytics and talent that is open and ready to grow.”
