As the tourism season begins, the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA), Paderu, has rolled out important initiatives to tackle plastic pollution at Vanjangi Hills, a favoured spot in the ASR district. Vanjangi Hills, also known as Meghala Konda, draws thousands of visitors from Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Telangana during the winter months.
“Vanjangi Hills sees a surge in visitors, particularly on weekends. The rise in foot and vehicle traffic has led to a concerning buildup of plastic waste,” stated V Abhishek, Project Officer of ITDA, Paderu. In response, ITDA has set up designated bins for collecting plastic waste. “We urge visitors to use these bins for their plastic waste, as we aim to reduce litter and preserve the area’s natural beauty.”
Abhishek mentioned plans to eventually prohibit plastic bottles entirely, with alternative methods for providing drinking water being considered. Furthermore, Vanjangi Hills will be closed to tourists one day a week for maintenance. “This closure will facilitate cleaning efforts, helping to keep the area looking pristine,” he explained.
ITDA Paderu is also unveiling new attractions, such as a tethered hot air balloon ride near Padmapuram Gardens in Araku Valley. “The trial run has commenced. Visitors will enjoy an exhilarating ride at 200 feet,” Abhishek shared. A paramotoring adventure near Kothavalasa in Araku Valley is also in the works. “This new offering will thrill those looking for adventure in the ASR district.”
“These initiatives aim to protect the region’s natural beauty while providing tourists with enjoyable and responsible experiences,” Abhishek concluded.
With these efforts, ITDA Paderu seeks to safeguard the stunning sunrise views and surreal cloud experiences at Vanjangi Hills for future generations.
