YSRCP president and former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has blamed the TDP coalition government for its failure to prevent the diarrhoea outbreak in Gurla village, Vizianagaram district, citing poor sanitation and the absence of water chlorination for the past five months as the primary causes.
During his visit to Gurla, where he met with those receiving treatment and consoled the families of the deceased, Jagan announced that the YSRCP would provide Rs 2 lakh in financial aid to each affected family. He also urged the government to clarify the extent of its support for the victims’ families.
Speaking to the media, Jagan criticised the government for downplaying the severity of the situation, pointing out conflicting reports from the district collector and the Deputy Chief Minister regarding the death toll. He accused the TDP government of attempting to cover up the issue, stating that the government only responded after his tweet brought attention to the crisis.
He also condemned the poor treatment conditions in Gurla, where patients were being treated in makeshift facilities like schools, lying on benches. He noted that these schools had been upgraded under the “Nadu-Nedu” program during his tenure, and questioned the state of care if those improvements hadn’t been made. Jagan further questioned why critically ill patients were not transferred to better-equipped hospitals in nearby cities like Vizianagaram or Visakhapatnam.
Jagan also accused the TDP of engaging in “diversion politics,” using personal issues, including involving his mother and sister, to distract from real problems. He called on the government to stop politiciszing personal matters for selfish gains and focus on addressing the pressing concerns of the people. Jagan urged the TDP to prioritize the needs and well-being of the public and act with responsibility instead of diverting attention from critical issues.
