Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy met Governor S Abdul Nazeer at Raj Bhavan in Vijayawada on Sunday to address the deteriorating law and order situation in Andhra Pradesh. Jagan Mohan Reddy requested an investigation by central government agencies into alleged atrocities committed by the TDP government.
During the meeting, Jagan Mohan Reddy informed the Governor that constitutional institutions in the state have failed, leading to a paralyzed administration and a lack of protection for citizens. He accused leaders and workers of the ruling party of engaging in barbaric and inhumane activities, spreading fear among the populace.
Jagan Mohan Reddy claimed that following the recent elections, the TDP-led coalition government targeted those who opposed them, particularly sympathisers of the YSR Congress Party. He alleged that TDP supporters have engaged in violence, including humiliation, beatings, and killings, while destroying properties such as residential houses. He also mentioned damage to government properties, including Village Secretariats, RBKs, and Village Clinics, which were targeted because they were established by the previous YSRCP government. Additionally, statues of the late Dr. Y.S. Rajashekar Reddy, former Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh, were reportedly vandalized.
The YSRCP highlighted the brutal killing of party activist Rashid in Vinukonda on July 17, 2024, noting that the incident occurred in a busy area with police nearby but seemingly uninvolved. He also mentioned an attack on MP PV Midhun Reddy in Punganur, Chittoor district, where TDP mobs attempted to murder him in the presence of police, demonstrating a severe deterioration in state protection.
Jagan Mohan Reddy criticized the state government’s handling of law and order, alleging that the administration has become politicized and ineffective, allowing atrocities and violence to persist. He concluded that the law and order situation in Andhra Pradesh has reached alarmingly low levels, with governance being replaced by anarchy.
