Minister for Housing and I&PR K. Parthasarathi accused the Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government of ruining the power sector and blamed the tariff hike on the flawed policies of the YSRCP regime.
Addressing a press conference at the TDP State office in Mangalagiri on Saturday, Parthasarathi criticised the YSRCP government for awarding a Rs 1,400 crore contract to the Hinduja company, violating all rules. He claimed that under Jagan Mohan Reddy’s leadership, the power sector became debt-ridden due to massive borrowings.
The Minister recalled that during the TDP regime from 2014 to 2019, Andhra Pradesh generated surplus electricity.
“However, in the five years of Jagan Mohan Reddy’s rule, the power sector was destroyed due to the government’s corrupt and defective policies. The power tariff was hiked nine times, imposing an additional burden of Rs 32,000 crore on the people,” Parthasarathi stated.
He also pointed out that the YSRCP administration’s illegal revocation of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) led to a loss of 7,000 MW of power. “Had the PPAs been honoured, the state would have had an additional 10,000 MW of power now,” he added.
The Minister further stated that Jagan Mohan Reddy’s decisions had eroded investor confidence in Andhra Pradesh, resulting in a lack of major industries during the YSRCP’s five years in power.
“International banks and financial institutions were hesitant to offer loans to AP due to the flawed administration of the YSRCP. But now, with Chandrababu Naidu back in power, financial institutions are showing interest in investing in the state’s industries and power sector,” he noted.
Parthasarathi also accused Jagan Mohan Reddy of launching a “new drama” in the form of dharnas against the power tariff hike.
