TDP chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu has said that due to the inefficiency and policies of the State government, the Polavaram project has been completely destroyed. In the name of reverse tendering, CM Jagan has totally reversed the State and the project, he alleged.
Addressing media persons here on Friday, Chandrababu said that the diaphragm wall of the project was washed away due to the decisions of CM Jagan.

He said that the TDP government had spent Rs 11,537 crore on the Polavaram project while the YSRCP government has so far spent a meagre amount of Rs 4,611 crore. He further said that Jagan, while in Opposition, was very concerned about the project-displaced people, but deceived them after coming to power.

“Polavaram is the dream of five crore people of AP,” he said, and added: “At a time when the dream was about to be realised, it became a victim in the hands of these incompetent persons.”

He said that in 2014, he thought of the Polavaram project and spoke in detail to the Union ministers of the then National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government. “I made a request to the then Central government to merge seven mandals in Telangana, which are in the flood zone, with Andhra Pradesh,” he said.

Saying that he had received assurance from the Centre on the merger of these seven mandals into Andhra Pradesh before taking oath as the Chief Minister, Naidu said that an ordinance was released immediately. This proves beyond doubt the dedication of TDP towards the development of the State and the cooperation of NDA, he said.
