Jagan’s incharge shuffle sparks concern in YSRC

Must read

The recent decision by YSRCP president and Chief Minister, Jagan Mohan Reddy, to deny tickets to certain sitting MLAs and reshuffle others to different constituencies for the upcoming 2024 elections has sparked internal unrest within the party.
A group of YSRCP leaders, including Jaggampeta MLA Jyothula Chantibabu, Prathipadu MLA Parvata Prasad, Pithapuram MLA Pendem Dorababu, Polavaram MLA Tellam Balaraju, P Gannavaram MLA Chittibabu, and Chintalapudi MLA Eliza, sought a meeting with Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy at the Tadepalli camp office on Monday.
Reports suggest that these leaders were alerted to the possibility of not being allocated tickets or being shifted to other constituencies for the upcoming elections. The Chief Minister reportedly addressed their concerns during the meeting and assured them regarding ticket allocations.
Jagan Mohan Reddy’s recent reshuffling of 11 Assembly constituency in-charges has not been well-received by the affected members.
Dissatisfaction among these 11 MLAs was communicated to the party leadership as they mobilised their followers to register protests in their respective constituencies.
Approximately 50 YSRCP MLAs face an uncertain future, as internal reports suggest dim prospects of victory in the upcoming elections.
Despite the challenges, some YSRCP leaders remain undeterred by Jagan Mohan Reddy’s decisions and are actively lobbying by approaching influential figures with close ties to the Chief Minister.
In response to the denial of tickets and constituency shifts, Minister RK Roja stated on Monday that MLAs who work diligently and earn the trust of the people of their constituencies will be considered for tickets in future elections.
She said that the responsibility lies with the MLAs to connect with the people during the ‘Gadapa Gadapaku’ programme to secure public confidence.
Reliable sources indicate that P Mithun Reddy, the Combined East Godavari and West Godavari district in-charge, has informed a minister from the district about the possibility of being fielded for Lok Sabha. However, the minister reportedly declined the offer, leading to ongoing discussions between Mithun Reddy and sitting MLAs regarding the denial of tickets and constituency changes.
The decision by YSRCP leadership to deny tickets to certain sitting MLAs and alter constituencies has created uncertainty among as many as 60 MLAs and MPs about their political futures, admitted a senior YSRCP leader.
