‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan’ works gain steam: WG Collector

West Godavari district Collector Chadalavada Nagarani has stated that the Jal Shakti Abhiyan (JSA) works are being carried out expeditiously in the district, with committees comprising officials from various departments set up to monitor the progress.
Collector Nagarani, along with Jal Shakti Abhiyan Central Nodal Officer and Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Director Dr Jitendra Singh, held a meeting on Monday to review the progress of the works undertaken under the JSA programme in the district. Officials concerned participated in the review meeting.
JSA District Nodal Officer and DWMA PD Dr K CH Appa Rao presented the progress through a PowerPoint presentation.
Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that the Jal Shakti Abhiyan Catch the Rain-2024 is being implemented with the theme ‘Nari Shakti Se Jal Shakti,’ emphasising the significant role of women in water conservation. The Central Team had earlier reviewed the JSA works carried out before the monsoon season and is currently inspecting the progress from January 6 to 8 in Akividu and Undi mandals. Scientist Mounika has also accompanied the JSA Central Nodal Officer for the inspection.
The Collector noted that under MGNREGS, 8,580 water conservation and harvesting works worth Rs 928 lakh were taken up in the district. These include irrigation channels, ring trenches, cattle water tanks, farm ponds, MI tanks, and roof water harvesting structures. Additionally, 998 works were undertaken under the Jal Jeevan Mission at a cost of approximately Rs 23,304 lakh, with 554 works completed at a cost of Rs 8,388 lakh and 444 works in progress at various stages.
JSA Central Nodal Officer Dr Jitendra Singh expressed satisfaction over the progress and commended the Collector for the team effort in executing the works. He urged officials to maintain the same spirit to complete the works effectively.
Scientist Mounika, JSA District Nodal Officer and DWMA Director Dr K CH Appa Rao, and district RWS officer Nageswara Rao were among those present at the meeting.
