The no-confidence motion held on Monday against Jawaharnagar Mayor Mekala Kavya by the dissident group was declared carried with 20 corporators voting against her and in support of the motion.
In all there were 28 corporators. Out of them, one corporator (16th division) passed away due to ill-health. Out of the 27, 20 voted in favour of the motion.
Keesara Revenue Divisional Officer Upender declared that 20 corporators had voted supporting the motion. He said that complete details of the no-confidence motion and voting on it would be submitted to District Collector.
The police imposed Section 144 CrPC to beef up security in Jawaharnagar area during the no-confidence motion.
The Mayor who lost the majority in the House left her office. Later, speaking on the issue, she said that the motion was moved against her without any justification. The process was initiated by a group of persons in the dissident group for their selfish political ends.
