Joint Collector T Rahul Reddy has warned the hoteliers of stringent action if stale and adulterated food items were served to the customers.
A team of officials led by Joint Collector Rahul Reddy conducted checking in the ‘Spice Magic Restaurant’ here on Tuesday. The Joint Collector inspected all the food items in the restaurant personally. He warned of taking action against the restaurant if the samples taken from the hotel were tested in the lab as adulterated or stale.
Speaking on the occasion, Joint Collector T Rahul Kumar Reddy said that people are getting sick due to having stale or sub-standard food items served in restaurants. “As part of the inspection, samples of mutton curry and chilli powder were taken at the Spice Magic Restaurant. The samples will be sent to the lab. If it is found adulterated in the tests, appropriate action will be taken based on the reports,” the Joint Collector made it clear.
Joint Collector Rahul Kumar Reddy said that some meat and food items are stored in fridges and stale food items are served to the customers. “If food colors are applied while cooking dishes to show that they are fresh or to add taste, strict action will be taken against them as per the FSSAI Act, if it is confirmed that the food prepared the day before has been served,” he said stating that using food colours are hazardous to health.
The Joint Collector noted that using tasting salt is also hazardous to health and he ordered not to use food colours and tasting salt.
He instructed the hoteliers to keep the kitchen and premises clean and also take care to keep the surroundings of the hotel clean. He said that the inspections of hotels and bakery stores would be carried out from time to time. District Food Safety Officer ASR Reddy and Assistant Food Controller M Srinivas were among those who took part in the inspection.
