Jana Sena Party (JSP) corporator Dalli Govinda Raju from Ward 64 was unanimously elected Deputy Mayor of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) on Tuesday. The election was held after a delay due to a lack of quorum.
With 59 members present, including corporators and ex-officio members, and no opposing candidates, Govinda Raju was declared elected unopposed.
His nomination was supported by NDA leaders, including Visakhapatnam West MLA P.G.V.R. Naidu and North MLA P. Vishnu Kumar Raju. Senior NDA leaders congratulated him, while JSP corporators praised the appointment as a morale boost.
