Judge emphasises need to protect the right to liberty

District Judge M Nagaraju on Wednesday emphasised the need to protect everyone’s rights and liberty. He asserted that Mahatma Gandhi emphasised freedom and equality in society.  
He was the chief guest at the Prisoners’ Welfare Day event at the Nalgonda District Jail, organised to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti and Prisoners’ Welfare Day on Wednesday.
Judge Nagaraju first paid homage by offering floral tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi.
The judge urged everyone to tread the path of righteousness and avoid evil. He advised prisoners to correct their mistakes and cultivate good behaviour that benefits society. He noted that prisoners should leave with a positive attitude and contribute to society.
He mentioned that prisoners with good behaviour are often released before they complete their term of imprisonment.
District Collector C. Narayanareddy stated that everyone makes mistakes, but it is essential to repent and ensure they are not repeated. He exhorted the prisoners to join the mainstream of society.
He said that the district administration, under the guidance of the district judge, is taking necessary actions for the welfare of prisoners.
District SP Sharath Chandra Pawar and District Legal Services Authority Secretary Deepti spoke.
The District Jail Superintendent Pramod presided over the event and welcomed the attendees.
