Minister for Excise and Culture Jupalli Krishna Rao on Monday emphasised the need to promote culture. He also stressed the importance of education in bringing about societal change. The Minister was speaking at the oath-taking ceremony of the new Library Development Committee in Shadnagar, organised under the leadership of local MLA Veerlapalli Shankar.
Minister Krishna Rao, along with MLC Kodandaram, attended the event as chief guests. Former MLA Choulapalli Pratap Reddy, Market Committee Vice Chairman Mohammad Ali Khan Babar, former MPP Sivashankar Goud, and other dignitaries were also present.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister highlighted the vital role libraries play in shaping society and lamented the weakening of cultural traditions due to a lack of education. He pointed out that media reports often highlight negative incidents in society, which he attributed to the absence of proper education and awareness.
He announced an allocation of Rs 5 lakh for the development of the Shadnagar library, emphasising the need to prioritise education and healthcare by allocating 80 per cent of government funds to these sectors. He stated that society must focus on learning from the lives of great historical figures, freedom fighters, and social activists, and every household should strive to have its own library. He also expressed concern over the influence of social media platforms such as WhatsApp and Facebook, stating that they often spread more negative than positive content. He advocated for the promotion of education and libraries in rural areas to counter such influences and suggested digitizing library resources to keep up with modern times.
Newly appointed Library Development Committee Chairman K Madanmohan Reddy took the oath and was congratulated by the Minister and other officials. Vice-Chairmen Nakka Balaraj and Veeresh Kumar, General Secretary Qset Srinu, and Joint Secretaries Kummari Chandrasekhar and Singapaga Anil Kumar were among those sworn in. The event saw participation from several prominent local leaders, including former municipal chairman Viswam, Raghunaik, Balraj Goud, Srikanth Reddy, Krishna Reddy, and JAC leaders Karunakar, TG Srinivas and Janardan.
