The long-pending dream of the people of the area for an international airport is going to be true as Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, along with Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyothiradiya Scindia, will lay the foundation stone on December 8 to develop the Madhurapudi Airport as an international airport.
Disclosing this to the media in Madhurapudi airport, near here, on Monday, MP Margani Bharat Ram said that Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, along with Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyothiradiya Scindia, would lay the stone to upgrade the existing airport as an international airport on December 8. The development of Rajahmundry airport as an International airport would be taken up at a cost of Rs 347.15 crore.
“If the Madhurapudi airport is updated as an international airport, it will be helpful to the people including businessmen to travel abroad comfortably. Going abroad will become easy if the airport upgrade is completed”, the MP said. The Rajahmundry airport would be the biggest in the state if the project was completed, he stated.
For the construction of the airport terminal building and other development works, The Central government has sanctioned Rs 347.15 crore. This biggest project is going to be materialized as pressure was exerted in the Parliament and during the board meeting for the development of Madhurapudi airport as an International airport, he claimed, adding that Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy also strove for the project.
“There are six airports in our state and the Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, and Tirupati airports are International Airports. My main ambition is to develop the Rajahmundry Airport into an International Airport. The runway of Rajahmundry airport will be 3.8 kilometers and no other airport in the state has such a large runway”, the MP said.
Margani Bharat said that after YSRCP came to power, the Madhurapudi airport was converted into a class four airport, stating that his effort is to run direct flights from Rajahmundry to Delhi, Tirupati, Mumbai and Dubai Gulf countries.
MP Bharat Ram said that the construction of a big terminal building with five aero bridges will take up soon. Due to this, even if five big planes arrive at the same time, this terminal will be used to attach directly to the terminal building.
The MP further said that this terminal building would be comfortable for 1400 passengers and claimed that AirBus a320 could also land at the airport.
