Kalki, Pushpa, Razakar grab accolades at Gaddar Awards

The Gaddar Telangana Film Awards (GTFA) 2024 jury committee has announced its final list of winners, celebrating cinematic brilliance across Telugu cinema with a special focus on films that echoed social causes, cultural roots and entertainment value.

The awards, named after revolutionary poet and activist Gaddar, this year honoured a spectrum of talent, from commercial blockbusters to deeply rooted narratives.

Nag Ashwin’s futuristic epic ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ emerged as the big winner, clinching the First Best Feature Film award and fetching Nag Ashwin the Best Director award.

The film also bagged awards for Best Art Direction and Best Costume Design, cementing its place as a technical and narrative triumph.

The Second-Best Feature Film was Pottel, while Lucky Bhasker took home the Third-Best Feature Film award and won additional laurels for Best Screenplay (Venky Atluri), Best Editing (Navin Nooli), and a Special Jury Award for Dulquer Salmaan’s performance.

Socially conscious storytelling was also recognised. Committee Kurrollu was recognised as the Best Film on National Integration, Communal Harmony, and Development of Depressed Classes, while its Director, Yedu Vamsee, won the Best Debut Director Award.

In the Environmental and Historical Themes section, Razakar stood out and was acknowledged in multiple categories, including Best Music Director (Bheems Ceciroleo) and Best Makeup Artist (Nalla Sreenu).

The poignant 35 Chinna Katha Kadu was declared the Best Children’s Film and secured the Best Actress (Nivetha Thomas) Award and the Best Child Artiste (Arundev Pothula and Baby Harika) Award.

Pushpa 2 led the popular cinema pack with Allu Arjun being named the Best Leading Actor, while Shreya Ghoshal was awarded the Best Female Playback Singer for her song ‘Suseti Aggi Ravva’ from the same film.

The Best Male Playback Singer Award went to Sid Sriram for ‘Nizame Ne Chebutunna’ from Ooru Peru Bhairavakona.

In the supporting categories, SJ Suryah and Saranya Pradeep won for Saripoda Sanivaram and Ambajipeta Marriage Band respectively.

Comedic brilliance was recognised with Satya and Vennela Kishore for Mattu Vadalara 2, which also won a Jury Special Mention for Faria Abdullah’s rap song performance.

Gaami won accolades for Best Cinematography (Vishwanath Reddy) and Best Audiography (Aravind Menon), while Devara’s Ayudha Puja number earned Ganesh Acharya the Best Choreographer award.
The awards also honoured innovation in storytelling with Aay… Mem Friends Andi being named the Best Wholesome Entertainment Film.

Music Shop Murthy’s Siva Paladugu won the Best Story Writer, and lyricist Chandrabose was recognised for his work in Raju Yadav, which also won a Special Jury Award.

Among literary recognitions, Mana Cinema First Reel by Rentala Jayadeva was declared the Best Book on Telugu Cinema.

With a blend of mainstream and meaningful cinema, GTFA 2024 reaffirmed its commitment to celebrating not just glitz and glamour but also the soul of Telugu storytelling.
