A resident of Kamareddy, named Kishan Rao, got a shock of his life on September 26 when he received a phone call from an unknown number. The caller claimed that he was the police officer from Delhi threatened Kishan Rao of dire consequences if he failed the former’s orders.
The conman posing as police officer threatened Kishan Rao that the latter was involved in money laundering and drug-related cases. The fraudster said that the Delhi police would arrest him.
The so-called police officer coaxed Kishan Rao to transfer Rs 9.29 lakh from his account in instalments to the accounts of the conman.
However, when Kishan attempted to call the number back, he found that the phone was switched off. Realising he had fallen victim to a scam, he contacted the toll-free number 1930 to file a complaint. Subsequently, Kishan also filed a complaint at the Kamareddy Town Police Station.
Based on Kishan’s complaint, a case has been registered, and an investigation is underway, as confirmed by Kamareddy Town Circle Inspector Chandrasekhar Reddy.
