BC Welfare and Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said that BRS MLC Kavitha, who had chanted Bathukamma and Jagruthi earlier, has now taken up the BC slogan. Some people (Kavitha) remember things after coming out from their ‘power intoxication’, Ponnam said.
Alleging that the BRS expelled former Minister Eatala Rajender from the party who was also one of its founding fathers, Ponnam asked the BRS to give some party posts to BCs.
Criticising Kavitha’s comments on the Congress BC Declaration, he congratulated Kavitha for speaking about BCs. He said that although Kavitha conducted the BCs’ meeting there was a gap in the leadership of the BRS.
Ponnam said that he was somewhat happy and somewhat unhappy at Kavitha organising a meeting of BCs at the Indira Park Dharna Chowk as she had never spoken about BCs when the BRS was in power.
He said that they would discuss if BCs were subjected to injustice in the Congress. Is that possible in the BRS, he asked. Kavitha took up the BC issue only after realising their strength, he said.
Ponnam said the Congress government will post the caste census report in the public domain and that the Congress government has decided to provide 42 per cent reservations to BCs in local body elections.
He warned Kavitha that they would not remain silent if BRS leaders used BCs for making political gains.
