BRS supremo KCR who is the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) got a smaller chamber in the Assembly. YS Rajashekar Reddy and N. Chandrababu Naidu during their tenures as LoPs used this chamber. This has been the same for decades.
The Speaker wanted changes to his chamber and so the BRS agreed to give the LoP chamber on condition that a bigger chamber would be allotted to KCR. However, that wasn’t fulfilled.
BRS MLAs and MLCs met the Speaker and requested him to rethink the matter. Even when the Congress had only a few MLAs, the LoP chamber was allotted, the BRS said.
“We gave the LoP chamber out of regard for the Speaker. Our LoP was given a small chamber saying that he would be given a bigger one later. Allotting a small chamber for the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly is an insult. Even when the Congress had just five members we gave the LoP room. Now we have asked the Speaker to think again about the room given to our LoP,” Vemula Prashanth Reddy said.
“Violations of the protocol are taking place where BRS MLAs won. They are forgetting that Chinta Prabhakar is an MLA in Sangareddy. The protocol is given to the wife of the defeated candidate. The local RDO is also doing the same. We complained about the RDO. Police escort vehicle is given to defeated Congress candidates. The DGP should think about this. Governments come and go. Chief Ministers come and go,” Prashanth said.
