The BRS seems to have a dual stand on special category tag. On Monday, during announcements related to the BRS unit in AP, KCR spoke about the privatisation of the Vishaka Steel Plant but didn’t speak a word on the special category tag.
In Bihar, KCR spoke about Bihar’s demand for the special category tag being rejected by the BJP government. Interestingly, on August 31, the Chief Minister strongly said that special status should be given to Bihar during his visit to Bihar in the presence of Bihar CM Nitish Kumar.
On Monday, when KCR was speaking when someone said special category tag there was no response. The BRS stand on the demand for special category tag for Andhra Pradesh is not clear.
It may be mentioned here that when the Telugu Desam was in power, Telangana had opposed granting special category tag to Andhra Pradesh until 2018 and had opposed it in Parliament too.But in 2019, KCR said the TRS will fight for granting the Special Category tag to AP after the YSRCP came to power.Considering relations with Jagan Mohan Reddy Telangana announced its support for AP’s special status plea.
The TRS also announced that with the support of the 43 MPs of the YSRCP and the TRS efforts will be made to get the special category tag for AP. But after the elections he became silent. However, BRS leaders did issue statements against granting special category tag for AP to provoke people.
Political observers say that now KCR is using the same formula in Bihar too as the special category tag has long been a political issue in Bihar. Nitish himself has often lashed out at its former ally BJP and then became silent.
