PNS|Hyderabad

On 16th September 2023, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao will start the wet run of the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation project Stage I.

The Chief Minister will switch on the Narlapur pump house inlet, commencing the wet run of the PRLIS.

The mega pumps at Narlapur pump house with an operational capacity of 145 MW will pump water into the Narlapur Reservoir, which is 2 km away.

On this occasion, KCR will perform special pooja at the site. The CM will later address a huge public meeting. Sarpanchs and other people from the beneficiary villages are going to attend the wet run.

The village sarpanchs and people will carry the water of the river Krishna to their respective villages and anoint the feet of village deities the next day.

The Chief Minister conducted a high-level review of the project progress at the Secretariat on Wednesday. KCR expressed his confidence that despite significant challenges, the Palamuru- Rangareddy LIS would become a reality. The Chief Minister stressed the need to complete the irrigation component of the project with the same determination that led to the speedy completion of the Kaleshwaram project.

The Chief Minister thanked the project officials, departments, and agencies involved in the implementation of the project.

The Chief Minister said that the lift irrigation project, built with the largest pumps anywhere in the world, would meet the drinking water needs of the people of south Telangana. The Chief Minister clarified that this was a great festive occasion for the people of south Telangana farmers in a historical context where the dream of decades was coming true. He said that this victory should be celebrated grandly with village- by-village processions on September 17 in the erstwhile Palamuru Rangareddy districts.

On this occasion, the works of completed projects were reviewed. KCR ordered the officials to complete the associated works, including land acquisition in the project area, on a war-footing. The officials said that 145 MW single pumps were being used for the Palamuru Rangareddy lifts which are not used anywhere else in the world. It is said that the weight of the bolt that fastens these pumps is 12 kg and its router is 80 tons.

The meeting attendees were surprised when the engineers explained that around 50 pumps weighing 240 tonnes are being used for these lifts. KCR ordered Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari to take care of the arrangements as per the consensus of the meeting that the organization of the public meeting, including the inaugural ceremony, transport arrangements for people coming from the villages of Mahabub Nagar, Ranga Reddy districts to the inaugural ceremony and the food arrangements should be done by the government. KCR said the state government focused mainly on the Palamuru Ranga Reddy after Telangana was formed. “The new government immediately completed the projects like Nettempadu, Bhima, Kalwakurthy, Koil Sagar, which were started by the previous joint rulers in Palamuru area and were left pending, on a war-footing. Palamuru district started getting green with that. Migration has stopped”. The Chief Minister outlined the progress achieved due to which reverse migration to Palamuru from outside states started.

The fact is that Palamuru has become so green after the completion of small pending projects. It means that if the Palamuru Rangareddy Lift is done, it will change the direction of southern Telangana phase, and we can imagine how much more Telangana will develop," the CMobserved. KCR said having leaders who had filed cases against PRLIS had become a curse for the people of Mahabubnagar district. “Politics should be towards changing people’s lives qualitatively. it should not be towards sacrificing people’s lives for their own selfishness”. However, the state government persisted with determination. Irrigation Department officials accepted the challenge and were ready to face any number of obstacles. Palamuru Rangareddy got ready to complete the upliftment project. The Chief Minister congratulated Rajat Kumar, Principal Secretary of Department, Smita Sabharwal, Secretary to CM, ENC Muralidhar, Irrigation Advisor Penta Reddy, CEs Ramana Reddy and Hamid Khan for their efforts.

The CM made it clear to the engineers that in the spirit of the completion of the Kaleshwaram project, the work of the Palamuru Ranga Reddy lift irrigation scheme should be completed.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister conducted a review with Genco/ Transco CMD Prabhakar Rao and other officials of the Power Department on the construction of power systems that are crucial for running the pumps to lift the water. The CM reviewed Mission Bhagiratha with ENC Krupakar Reddy and other officials as well as other measures to be taken for the supply of drinking water.
