The comments made by Jana Sena Party (JSP) chief Pawan Kalyan regarding the village and ward volunteers have sparked a statewide uproar in Andhra Pradesh politics. The ruling YSRCP leaders have strongly criticisd his remarks, while the TDP leaders are being cautious in their response, aware that negative comments could backfire for the party.

TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu clarified that he is not against the volunteers’ system itself, but rather opposes their political affiliation.

However, TDP MP from Vijayawada, Kesineni Srinivas (Nani), who has had differences with Naidu recently, stated that there is nothing wrong with the village volunteers’ system. He said that any system working for the welfare of people is good, including the village volunteers’ system. However, he emphasised that the volunteers should work for the people and not for political parties.

Srinivas pointed out that in the past, the TDP had Janmabhoomi committees that operated in a similar manner. He stressed that volunteers should rise above politics and work selflessly. He also acknowledged that every system may have both positive and negative elements.

He stated, “If the system is functioning well, it should continue. As long as volunteers do not work for a specific political party, there should not be any issue. Blaming the entire system based on the actions of a few individuals is unfair.”
