While producers in the Telugu film industry have long appealed to top actors to do at least one or two films a year to help keep cinema halls — especially single screens — running, it seems that not just the stars but even mid-range actors are slowing down.
Take Kiran Abbavaram for instance. He had two releases last year — KA and Dil Ruba — but in 2025, he hasn’t yet fully begun shooting for his upcoming film K Ramp. What’s more, both of his previous releases had actually gone on floors two years ago, showing just how delayed the process has become.
While it’s understandable that big-budget productions can take time, actors like Kiran, too, are now seen stretching timelines, despite having multiple projects lined up.
Razesh Danda, the producer of K Ramp, previously faced a setback with the box-office failure of his film Mazaka. Now, the shoot for K Ramp has just begun, and it appears unlikely to be released in 2025. This slowdown isn’t limited to Kiran Abbavaram. Nikhil, Anand Deverakonda, and Gopichand are also taking longer gaps between projects. Industry insiders believe that if these mid-range actors delivered at least two films a year, it could help revive theatres, many of which are now struggling to stay open.
In fact, due to the lack of major releases over the past two weeks, some cinema halls have temporarily shut down. Several have even put up placards at their gates stating they’ll reopen from June 20, with the release of Kuberaa.
