Union Minister and BJP State unit president G Kishan Reddy inaugurated the temporary building of Sammakka Sarakka Central Tribal University (SSCTU) at the Youth Training Centre at Jakaram in the district on Friday.
Speaking after declaring open the university, Kishan Reddy said that the SSCTU was temporarily established at the Youth Training Centre. When the State government earmarked the land, construction of the university building would be taken up. Classes are expected to begin for the academic year 2024-25.
He said the Centre is providing all the assistance in establishing the university and Hyderabad Central University would be the nodal institution for Sammakka Sarakka University.
He appealed to the State government to promptly allot the land to ensure that permanent buildings are constructed for the university. Telangana has a tribal population of 9.8 per cent, and the literacy rate among tribal people is very low. He emphasised the need to increase literacy among tribal people. The Centre has allocated Rs 24,000 crore for the welfare of the most backward tribes. The Centre allocated Rs 900 crore for the tribal university
He expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for his efforts in establishing the university.
Kishan Reddy also pledged to work on tourism development, emphasising the pride associated with the UNESCO-recognised Ramappa temple in the area.
