Kishan urges CM to expedite land acquisition for Regional Ring Road

Must read

Union Tourism Minister and State Unit president G Kishan Reddy has written a letter to Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy requesting the latter to take up the land acquisition process for Regional Ring Road. As part of the Regional Ring Road scheme, land has to be acquired for the national highways to be built in the State.
Kishan Reddy urged the state government to deposit 50 per cent of funds with the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for land acquisition of Regional Ring Road. He explained that he had previously written a letter to the BRS government regarding these issues. The then government did not respond. He suggested that measures be taken to speed up projects.
It may be recalled that a 347.84 km road is to be constructed in two parts outside the Hyderabad Outer Ring Road. Under the first phase, the Central government has declared 158.64 km of the northern part as a National Highway. In the past, the governments had agreed that more than 70 per cent of the cost of land acquisition should be borne equally by the Central and State governments. The Central government took responsibility for road construction. The cost of relocation of utilities (removal of power poles, transformers, and telecom lines across regional ring road construction) shall be borne by the Central government.
Due to the high cost of road construction, the Central government backed down.
