Kishannagar residents demand total prohibition in village

Must read

The residents of Kishannagar, led by Nadivulla Shekhar, presented a petition to MLA Veerlapalli Shankar, urging him to ensure that a complete ban on alcohol sales is imposed in their village. This plea comes in the wake of rising concerns over the harmful effects of alcohol on middle class families and the youth.
Shekhar, who recently began a hunger strike to push for this ban, highlighted that excessive alcohol consumption is causing social disturbance and family discord. Some villagers have even been drinking near schools, triggering panic among children. Despite previous attempts to ban alcohol, the measures were short-lived. Parents and children are reportedly drinking without any distinction, contributing to a growing crisis among the youth.
The petition also criticized the Excise Department for its lack of response to the villagers’ repeated requests to halt the sale of alcohol. Despite their demands and Shekhar’s hunger strike, the department has yet to take decisive action.
MLA Veerlapalli Shankar responded positively to the petition, expressing support for the villagers’ concerns and promising to take appropriate action to address the issue.
