Bharat Rashtra Samithi working president and Minister for Municipal Administration K T Ram Rao on Friday tore into the BJP leaders for not protesting against the Centre’s discriminatory attitude towards Telangana.

The Centre, he pointed out, had collected Rs 3.65 lakh crore from Telangana through taxes during the last eight years, but the State was given a mere Rs 1.68 lakh crore.

Addressing a public meeting at Huzurnagar, KTR rebutted the claim made by Union Minister for Tourism G Kishan Reddy that the Centre had not shown any discrimination in releasing funds to Telangana. “If my statement is wrong, I am prepared to quit as Minister,” he said and challenged Kishan Reddy whether the Union Minister would tender an apology to people for making false claims.

The per capita income at the time of the formation of Telangana State was Rs 1.24 lakh and it went up to Rs 2.78 lakh under the leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao. KVR is a visionary, he observed. But the national per capita under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is Rs 1.49 lakh only, he pointed out.

The Minister countered the criticism that Telangana was in a debt trap, KTR said the loans raised by the State government were being used for developmental works and creating assets. It would prove to be beneficial for future generations, he asserted.

He cautioned the youth not to fall prey to the BJP’s divisive politics. The BJP’s agenda was to create a communal divide to derive political mileage and also attract the youth. Every section of society, except the corporate giants, is reeling under the price rise and rise in fuel and gas prices.
