KTR may contest in LS elections

Must read

BRS Working President KT Rama Rao is thinking of contesting the Lok Sabha elections. Highly placed sources said that the party is weighing options and there is a strong move within the KCR family to make one of them contest to the Lok Sabha.
Currently, three members of the Kalvakuntla family are MLAs and one is an MLC. Sources said that the constituency has not yet been decided, but moves are going on in that direction. Sources said that KTR can be a very strong voice for the BRS in the Lok Sabha.
Even MLA T. Harish Rao reportedly signalled that one sitting member from the family should contest to the LS as there is no need for too many heavyweights of the party in the TS Assembly.

It is learnt that Harish Rao may be made working president of BRS in place of KTR.
Internal BRS sources said that the party lost elections as the family rule charge had gone deeply into the public psyche. If all the members of the Kavakuntala family are seen together too frequently, the family rule narrative can never be changed.

MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha is keen on contesting to the LS from Nizamabad. However, sources close to her said that she is not confident whether the BRS high command will give her a ticket. The BRS is looking at continuing Kavitha as an MLC to ensure strength in the Council for some more time.

Alarmed by the rise of the Congress and the BJP in Telangana, the BRS is making moves to ensure that there is no existential crisis for the party. With the rise of the Congress and the BJP in the Assembly elections, they think that if the party does not return to power in the Lok Sabha elections, it will be at a loss. With this, an exercise has started on selecting candidates for the Lok Sabha elections.

While there are speculations that KCR will contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections recently Harish clarified that no decision has been taken on KCR contesting.

Although the party doesn’t intend to change its leadership immediately, Harish may be elevated as the BRS Working President.
