KU off the track in the absence of regular Executive Council

The full Executive Council of Kakatiya University functioned only till October last year. Since October, an ad hoc council is governing the university. The employees, teachers, students and research scholars of the KU have been asking the State government to constitute a full executive council and thereby constitute a search committee to appoint university vice-chancellor.
In fact, the full council would have 13 members. Besides the university Vice-Chancellor, secretaries and commissioners of higher education and collegiate education officiate as permanent members of the council. It may be recalled here that the KU Vice-Chancellor laid down office on May 21 at the expiry of his term.
On the orders of the state government, four members representing spheres of education, fine arts, service and culture sectors from Adilabad, Khammam and Warangal districts will be appointed to the to the executive council.
Sociology professor Prof Tatikonda Ramesh laid down his office as the 14th VC on May 21 at the expiry of his term.
In spite of code of conduct is in vogue, the state government took permission from the election commission and got its approval to appoint VCs to the universities.
It constituted search committee for all universities in the state except that of KU. The search committees have been going through the applications received for the vC posts. It is busy gathering background information of the candidates. As the Kakatiya University has no executive council, it could not send search committee members’ names to the government, derailing the process to appoint the VC.
The student, teachers, research scholars and others of the KU have been demanding the state government to constitute an executive council and appoint a search committee to take up the process of appointing the VC.
