‘Land laws being bent to favour big corporates’

Former minister Harish Rao accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of misusing power to snatch land from poor farmers and hand it over at throwaway prices to industrialists, calling it a disturbing pattern of betrayal and suppression.

In a statement, Harish Rao slammed the recent police crackdown on farmers protesting the proposed ethanol plant in Peddha Dhanwada of Jogulamba Gadwal district. “The government has turned its back on the 2013 Land Acquisition Act and is forcing land seizures at gunpoint for the benefit of a few corporate cronies,” he said.

He described the police action on farmers as “inhuman and brutal,” especially given that it occurred with the help of private bouncers allegedly hired by the ethanol factory management. “Revanth Reddy, who proudly calls himself a son of Palamuru, has remained silent for over 24 hours after this shocking incident in his own district,” Harish remarked.

He demanded to know why police registered cases against 40 farmers and sent 12 to judicial remand, but failed to act against the factory owners or their bouncers who allegedly assaulted protestors. “If the Chief Minister has any accountability left, let him explain why only farmers were booked,” he said.
Harish accused the Congress regime of turning governance into a “beat the farmer, appease the elite” model. “You haven’t done a single thing for farmers, but are constantly seen gifting their lands to real estate giants,” he said, accusing the Chief Minister of governing with commissions in mind rather than compassion.

“The day Telangana’s farmers rise in rebellion is not far away,” he warned.

The BRS leader demanded the immediate release of the 12 farmers arrested from Peddha Dhanwada and pledged to continue the fight until justice is served.
