Now it is clear, the BRS does not want an alliance with the Left in the Telangana Assembly elections and Lok Sabha elections. The comments of Finance Minister T. Harish Rao about the Left have made this clear.
At the same time, the Left has also strongly criticised the BRS. With Assembly elections approaching why is the BRS against an alliance with Left parties? There are two reasons why the BRS does not want an alliance with the Left parties.
One is that the Left has joined the opposition front INDIA to defeat the BJP in the next general elections.
The BRS treats the Congress as its political enemy on par with the BJP. The Left’s decision at the national level has led to the BRS keeping them away.
Another important reason is that the Left are the arch rivals of AIMIM.
If the BRS has an alliance with the Left the AIMIM may not have a tie-up with the BRS.If the BRS has to choose between the Left and AIMIM, the BRS prefers the latter.
The Left had strongholds in Nalgonda and Khammam districts. But they gradually lost ground in these two districts.
If the BRS has an alliance with AIMIM it will have an advantage in around 25 Assembly constituencies. Moreover, the MIM does not insist on Assembly seats like the Left parties. The Left parties want at least five Assembly seats each. But the BRS thinks that if they allot 10 Assembly seats to the Left they may go to the Congress as the Left does not have the strength to win.
Keeping this in view the BRS does not want to have an alliance with Left parties.
Finance Minister T. Harish Rao said in Siddipet on Monday that the Left does not have workers. He said that Left parties are using Anganwadi and ASHA workers to carry their flags, provoking them against the government.
Reacting to this, CPI leader Kunamaneni Sambasiva Rao asked whether the BRS could win the Munugode Assembly by-election without Left support. He also asked whether without their support it is possible for the BRS to defeat the BJP in the Telangana Assembly elections.
Meanwhile, TPCC President Revanth Reddy came down heavily on the BRS supporting the Left. Reacting to Finance Minister Harish’s comments about the Left, Revanth said that once again Harish proved that uncle (KCR) and nephew (Harish) have the habit of burning the raft after crossing the river.
He also said that if the Left understands the attitude of the BRS it would be good for them. Going by the latest developments the Left may have an alliance with the Congress and not the BRS.
