Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has suggested that the All India Congress Committee should think strategically, considering the emerging situation in which south Indian states would be losers with fewer increases in MP seats upon eventual reorganization of parliamentary constituencies on the basis of population. Â
The Chief Minister said that AICC should move cautiously and ensure that the south Indian states would not experience loss in regard to increases in the numbers of parliamentary constituencies. Â
Addressing Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting at Belagavi on Thursday, Revanth Reddy said that the Congress party should campaign vigorously on the Women’s Bill introduced by it during the erstwhile Congress regime and bring it to a logical conclusion. The Chief Minister said that the Congress should be very careful in this regard as there were chances for the BJP to turn reservations in its favour through the Women’s Bill.
The Chief Minister claimed that the ongoing caste census in Telangana had become a “guide for the nation”. He suggested that a movement be waged demanding the Centre to take up caste census along with population census. He urged the CWC meeting to pass a resolution in this regard and send the same to the Centre. After approving the proposal of the Chief Minister, the CWC later passed a resolution unanimously in this regard.
It may be mentioned here that the Congress is in power in two states—Karnataka and Telangana in south India. Other than these two states, the party is in power only in Himachal Pradesh.
