Local body elections will be held only after conducting a caste census in the state, Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said.
He said the Cabinet had passed a resolution and issued a GO allotting Rs 150 crore to conduct the caste census. He said that the caste census will start soon and that no one should worry as the government is sincere regarding this.
Addressing Sardar Sarvai Papanna Goud’s 374th birth anniversary celebrations at the Ravindra Bharati on Sunday, Prabhakar said that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had enquired about it several times.
A discussion is going on whether to conduct the caste census using an agency or by a government department and the government will reveal paperwork regarding the caste census within 10 days, he said.
Ponnam said the government had decided to provide safety mokulu to toddy tappers, however, only 10,000 safety mokulu are ready now. He said that the government will ensure that no toddy tapper gets killed by falling from a toddy tree.
