Minister for Education and IT, Nara Lokesh, has announced a comprehensive inquiry into the ‘Nadu-Nedu’ activities undertaken by the previous YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government. Lokesh addressed the MLAs on Tuesday’s second day of the AP Legislative Assembly session, emphasising the need to strengthen government schools.
TDP MLAs Tenali Shravan Kumar, Dhulipalla Narendra, and Eluri Sambasiva Rao raised concerns about significant corruption in the ‘Nadu-Nedu’ works executed by the former government. In response, Minister Lokesh confirmed that an inquiry would be conducted to investigate these allegations.
Minister Lokesh highlighted that the inquiry would focus on the poor quality and standards of the ‘Nadu-Nedu’ works under the previous YSRCP administration. He reiterated the government’s commitment to transforming government schools to be on par with private institutions. As part of this initiative, teacher positions will be filled through the Mega DSC recruitment drive, increasing the number of teachers in government schools.
Lokesh criticised the YSRCP government for its adverse impact on teachers and the overall education system, citing poor decisions that led to significant damage. He assured that the current government would take methodical and well-considered actions to revamp the education system from KG to PG starting from the first year.
Additionally, Minister Nara Lokesh expressed gratitude to the Union Government on X (formerly Twitter) for prioritising Andhra Pradesh in the Union Budget. “Thank you to the central government for its commitment to completing the Amaravati capital and the Polavaram project. On behalf of the people of the state, we are grateful to the NDA government for allocating Rs 15,000 crores towards the reconstruction of Andhra Pradesh,” said Lokesh.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that Rs 15,000 crores would be allocated for the construction of Amaravati. She assured full cooperation from the centre for the Polavaram project and support for the backward areas of Uttarandhra, Rayalaseema, and Prakasam districts through a special package.
