Special Chief Secretary of the Revenue Department (Disaster Management), RP Sisodia, has warned of heavy rains in Andhra Pradesh due to a low-pressure area forming in the Bay of Bengal. He urged farmers to take necessary precautions, particularly as the paddy harvesting season is ongoing in several districts.
Sisodia advised that officials from the agriculture department remain available to assist farmers and ensure they are prepared for any adverse weather conditions. He emphasised the importance of farmers being ready for emergencies.
According to Sisodia, a surface circulation is expected to form in the Andaman Sea, which is likely to develop into a low-pressure area in the southeast Bay of Bengal by November 23.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that this low-pressure system could intensify into a cyclonic storm in the next two days.
As a result, the state is expected to experience moderate to heavy rains from November 24, particularly in South Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema, with widespread rainfall also affecting Tamil Nadu and Kerala. This weather system is expected to disrupt farming activities, and farmers have been advised to stay updated on weather forecasts and take necessary measures to protect their crops
